NOVEL CONCEPT is now an Audiobook!
When we received an audition from Melissa Strom for the voice talent of Novel Concept, we were incredibly excited! We immediately knew that she had to be the one to read this book! Melissa’s voice has got to be one of the best girl voices around. Her voice acting pulls you in and immerses you in the story immediately. Plus, she’s been on Monk.

Hi! Alexa Stevens here again. Thanks for reading about me. Guess what? I have some questions for you,about what you thought of my story and about your own life story.
(1) Did you have a favorite chapter in The Howling Vowels? Which one? Why was it your favorite?
(2) Did you have a favorite character?
(3) Which Vowel did you feel was most like you? Why?
(4) I am an only child, so that is all I know. I wonder how my life would be different if I had a sister or a brother. Do you have siblings, or are you an only, too? Have you ever wished for more siblings than you have, or fewer? Why or why not?
(5) Parents are a big part of my story and my life so far. What is your favorite thing about your parents? What would you like to change if you could? Do you wish you spent less time with them? More time?
(6) Moving to a new house is a big deal, while moving to a new city is huge! It was hard for me to leave what I knew and loved, but it turned out to be an opportunity. Have you ever moved? If you had to move out of your current state, where would you go? Why?
(7) Would you like to live in Sundog, Minnesota? Why or why not?
(8) You know a little about my passions for Irish dance, films, science, and Norse myths. (Well, and questions!) What do you think are the passions of the other Howling Vowels characters, both the kids and the grownups? What are your passions? Who shares them? What is the craziest thing you ever did because you were excited by an idea?
(9) My friends are like me in some ways – and way different in other ways! What about your own friends?
(10) Have you ever had a misunderstanding with a friend, like I did with Otto when I tried to get him interested in the science fair? If you did, what happened?
(11) My friends learn in different ways and have different kinds of schooling. What about you? Do you have a favorite thing to learn about? How do you learn best? Do you think learning new things is a form of fun or a form of work – or both?
(12) Have you ever had to comfort a friend, like I did when Eduardo told me about his sister? How did you know what to say or do? Why do you think he didn’t tell me about his sister before El Dia de los Muertos?
(13) Ursula isn’t a complainer, but she was having a hard time after her parents’ divorce. Have you ever had a friend with a really big problem?
(14) Would you like to read another book about me and my friends? (I hope so, because I am working on another one right now!)

Doing Dreams Right; VIDEO 7 (2012 Teleconference)
Meet Teagan Bentley as she talks about Doing Dreams Right!
Teagan Bentley is a 12 year old vegan homeschooler (Radical Unschooler) from Arizona.
Her current interests include: ballet, Bollywood dance, Tae Kwon Do, writing, fashion modeling, 3D logic puzzles, computer games, sewing, and fashion design.
Her current BIG dreams include: being a model, professional dancing, and owning a fashion boutique.
Teagan’s first book (a middle grade novel), Novel Concept, came out in April 2011(in paperback and Kindle). It was recently released in audiobook form earlier this month (October 2012). This version can be found on iTunes, Amazon, and Audible.
Teagan is also known as the “Hula Hooping Rubiks Cube Girl” in the documentary movie Life in a Day.
In “Doing Dreams Right,” Teagan tells us about the importance of: (1) trying things NOW, (2) trying many things, and (3) trying new things–all in the pursuit of helping you live your dreams NOW, rather than waiting for “some day.”

Doing Collaborative Writing Right; VIDEO 3 (2012 Teleconference)
Meet Leslie Schultz and her daughter Julia Braulick as they tell us about Doing a Mother-Daughter Writing Collaboration Right.
Julia Braulick is a homeschooled thirteen-year-old Quaker who loves learning, writing fiction, reading, and her poodle, Peanut. She plans to be a prairie ecologist when she grows up and will be building a solar panel from scratch this fall.
As a girl, Leslie Schultz yearned to be Laura Ingalls Wilder. Now she loves living in Minnesota, reading, quilting, taking pictures, making soup, writing (poetry, fiction, essays), and learning new things with her daughter, Julia, and her husband, Tim.
Leslie is the author of The Howling Vowels, a middle grade book that has been deemed “a sweet modern day Little House story”. Julia helped immensely with this book and is the author of its lexicon. And Sometimes Y, the second book in the series, is being written presently.
In “Doing a Mother-Daughter Writing Collaboration Right,” author Leslie Schultz and her daughter share how their first project, Do Life Right, Inc. title The Howling Vowels grew out of their homeschooling experiences and describe how they are working as full co-authors on a sequel, And Sometimes Y.
Leslie and Julia explain how they imagine original characters growing and changing, develop new plot lines, introduce new characters, share actual drafting, resolve differences of opinion, handle writers’ block, and weave details from real life into a fictional world.

TWO BOOK Virtual Book Release Party!
Whoo-Hoo!
We’re so excited here at Do Life Right, Inc. to have HomeschoolLiterature.com host a one-day virtual book release party for both THE HOWLING VOWELS and FRACTURED FATE today–Wednesday, November 16, 2011.
When asked recently which of these two books was my favorite, I had to answer honestly: I couldn’t possibly choose! Each is so unique in its own way.
